A humanitarian mission carried out by the hospital ship "Peace Ark" of the Liberation Army of the People's Republic of China proves a success in the Seychelles, according to a local official.

Anse Etoile primary school director Daniella Antat said pupils ages 11 and 12 had been examined by the Chinese medical team in her school on the coast of Mahe island. The locals also received presents and managed to interact very well with the Chinese professionals during their free time, she added.

"It was truly a rich exchange between two groups who had common interests of discovering something from each other," she told the national television SBC on Friday.

The visit by the Chinese doctors was appreciated by the Public Health Ministry for the treatment of patients, whose health complications need Chinese medical expertise the Indian Ocean island is unable to provide.

A nurse working at a Victoria hospital told Xinhua that "the coming of the Chinese doctors is of great importance to the public health sector."

The commander of the hospital ship, Bao Yuping, said the Peace Ark was constructed to serve the world and bring friendship to all.

The Chinese navy hospital ship on Wednesday anchored at the port of Victoria for a five-day visit to the Seychelles.
