The spokesman said the package addressed to Merkel "cannot be ruled out containing explosives."

It was being examined for explosives, German daily Tagesspiegel reported.

Earlier in the day, five parcel bombs were discovered in foreign embassies in Greece. Two blasts occurred outside the Swiss and Russian embassies. The three others were detonated in controlled explosions.
