Haiti's cholera death toll rises to 724

The death toll of cholera in Haiti rose to 724, as more than 80 people died in the last 24 hours, Haitian Health Ministry said on Thursday.

According to information reaching Santo Domingo from Port-au-Prince, Haiti's capital, the number of people infected with cholera are about 11,000, an increase of more than 1,000 patients since Wednesday, Haitian Health Ministry said.

The cholera outbreak began at the mid of October in Artibonite Valley in the center of the country. The authorities thought they had stopped its spread, however the number of fatal victims have strongly increased in the last days.

The epidemic already reached Port-au-Prince, where about 1.3 million victims of the earthquake of Jan. 12 are still living in temporary shelters.
