Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai once again called on Taliban to give up militancy and join the peace process after attending the special praying of Eidul Adha, the biggest annual religious festival on Tuesday.

"Once again I call on all brothers and oppositions to give up violence and brother killings and join the peace process in the country,"Karzai said.

The war-weary but hopeful Afghans observed the religious festival Eidul Adha amid tight security as police forces have been deployed in all sensitive areas and streets of capital city Kabul to ensure peace for citizens.

He made this offer while Taliban elusive chief Mullah Omar on Monday in his message on the eve of Eidul Adha called upon his fighters to intensify attacks against Afghan and NATO-led troops stationed in Afghanistan.

Several weeks ago, President Karzai announced formation of the council for peace with objective to accelerate the efforts for achieving the government-backed national reconciliation program and talks with Taliban militants.

Taliban leadership has repeatedly rejected any offer for talks with Afghan government, stressing there will be no talks in the presence of foreign troops in Afghanistan.
