Thousands of people on Saturday marched through the streets of Melbourne of Australia to call for equal marriage rights for same sex couples.
The protesters, including politicians and celebrities, were urging voters to use the upcoming state Victorian election later this month to send a message to federal politicians calling for support on same sex marriage.
Prime Minister Julia Gillard remained steadfast in her opposition to gay marriage, but said she expected it would be heavily debated at the national conference.
