A 70-year-old German woman tourist died after being attacked by a shark in Egypt's Red Sea resort of Sharm El-Sheikh on Sunday, local sources told Xinhua.

Medical sources in South Sinai governorate told Xinhua that the old woman arrived dead at the International Hospital in Sharm El Sheikh.

Initial investigations showed that the shark attacked the woman while she was diving, mauling off her hands and wounding parts of her body, resulting in her death.

"We have told boats and diving centers to stop any diving activities," Ziad Al Basel, vice chairman of the Chamber of Diving and Marine Activities in South Sinai, told Xinhua.

Sharm El-Sheikh is one of the most popular tourist sites in Egypt, especially for divers.

The death happened a day after authorities reopened Sharm El Sheikh's beaches after a closure due to two latest shark attacks which left four foreigners injured.

Egyptian environment authorities said Thursday they had caught two sharks suspected of mauling people in the previous attacks.
