Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said Monday that his country highly values the friendly relationship with China.

The two countries share a "grandiose" prospect for cooperation, said Lukashenko at his first press conference after winning another term in office during the presidential election on Sunday.

In response to a question from Xinhua, Lukashenko said that China has been consistently supportive of developing cooperation with Belarus, noting that China extended a helping hand to Belarus during the economic crisis.

He called China a "great country," saying that Belarus is very thankful for the support and assistance from the Chinese leadership and the Chinese people, and that his country is sincerely pleased with China's achievements in economic development.

Belarus will spare no efforts to serve as a platform for China to expand markets in Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States, he added.

The Central Election Commission (CEC) announced earlier in the day that Lukashenko had garnered nearly 80 percent of the votes in the presidential election, with 100 percent of the ballots counted.
