Iran on Tuesday morning hanged a man convicted of working for Israel's Mossad intelligence agency in Tehran, the semi-official Mehr news agency reported.

Ali Akbar Siadat was executed in the Evin prison on espionage charges, according to Mehr.

Siadat, who was accused of working for Mossad from 2004 to 2008, was arrested by Iran in 2008 when he tried to leave the country, said the report.

He provided Israel with classified information on Iran and received 60,000 U.S. dollars in return, said Mehr.

Siadat confessed, after his detention, that he was linked to an Israeli embassy after his commercial transactions with some foreigners and then provided Israel with classified information about one of Iran's military units.

The report did not specify which Israeli embassy in which country Siadat had linked to. Israel and Iran do not have diplomatic relations for over three decades.

Iran hanged another Israeli spy, Ali Ashtari, in 2008, for cooperating with Israeli intelligence services.
