Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said Wednesday that Iranians thwarted the riots after the presidential elections in 2009, the official IRNA news agency reported.
Khamenei said Iranian people disappointed enemies during last year's post-election riots through their courage and faith, the report said.
He made the remarks in a meeting here with his visitors from Iranian northern Gilan province.
Protests gripped Tehran and some other Iranian cities after the June 12 presidential election in 2009 when Iran announced that Mahmoud Ahmadinejad won 62.63 percent of the total votes, while former Prime Minister Mir-Hossein Mousavi only got 33.75 percent. Claims were made that the vote had been rigged in favor of Ahmadinejad.
