Fiji PM applauds China's support in country's development

Fiji's Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama on Friday applauded China's support in developing Fiji, saying "it has been a rewarding and productive year that has greatly enhanced the spirit of mutual cooperation and respect between Fiji and China."

Bainimarama made the remarks during a ceremony that the two countries signed a new economic and technical cooperation agreement.

In signing the aid agreement with Chinese Ambassador to Fiji Han Zhiqiang, Bainimarama thanked the Chinese embassy for a good year of achievement and progress between the two countries.

"It has been a rewarding and productive year that has greatly enhanced the spirit of mutual cooperation and respect between Fiji and China," Bainimarama said, adding 2010 has been rewarding in as far as the diplomatic relationship between the two countries is concerned.

"This has been a special year in the relationship between our two countries marking the 35th anniversary of our formal diplomatic relations," said Bainimarama.

He said "during this time China has on numerous occasions demonstrated its close and friendly ties with Fiji in real and practical terms."
