The Chinese government has sent 10 million yuan (1.52 million U.S. dollars) of emergency relief supplies to flood-hit Sri Lanka aboard a plane that left Beijing at 8 p.m. Monday.

The humanitarian relief materials include 60 sets of water-purifying equipment, 10,000 bed sheets, 7,200 blankets, 10,000 towel blankets and 30,000 bags of milk powder, a Ministry of Commerce (MOC) statement said.

Floods have ravaged Sri Lanka since mid-January.

China is providing the emergency humanitarian relief to Sri Lanka to express its friendship with the south Asian nation.
