Egypt orders freeze of Mubarak's assets
Egyptian General Prosecutor Abdel Majid Mahmoud ordered on Monday to freeze the assets of former President Hosni Mubarak and his family, state media reported.
The prosecutor requested the foreign minister to freeze, through diplomatic channels, any assets of the ousted president, his wife and his two sons and their wives in foreign countries.
Mubarak presented a financial statement on the amount of his wealth to the judicial bodies on Sunday in consistence with Egyptian laws.
The legal consultant to the toppled president announced that Mubarak has no assets abroad, which contradicted with the general prosecutor's Monday decision.
Mubarak resigned on Feb. 11 and handed over his power to the army after nationwide protests that hit Egypt for 18 days and caused around 365 deaths.
