Russia to evacuate nationals from Libya

Russia is ready to evacuate 563 of its nationals from the turmoil-hit Libya and four airplanes are waiting for take-off order, local media reported on Tuesday.

According to the Russian Emergency Ministry, the first plane is due to depart to the Libyan capital of Tripoli at noon Moscow time (0900 GMT).

At Triploi airport, 134 Russians, employees of the Russian Railways and Gazprom gas company along with Russian diplomats' families, were awaiting the Russian plane, the reports said.

The Emergency Ministry also said Russian Foreign Ministry has been in talks with Libyan authorities to greenlight an air corridor for these planes.

On Monday, violence in Libya has escalated as thousands of anti- government protesters took to the streets in Tripoli. Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has ordered the officials from emergencies department and railways to evacuate Russians from Libya.
