Mozambican President Armando Guebuza said Tuesday that his country hopes to further its pragmatic cooperation with China.

Guebuza made the remarks at a meeting with a Chinese delegation headed by Li Zhaozhuo, vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC).

At the meeting, Guebuza expressed gratitude for China's steadfast support for and assistance to Mozambique, saying his country regards China as its strategic cooperation partner.

Mozambique and China have time-honored friendship, and the two sides have maintained close cooperation in many fields such as politics, economy and diplomacy, he said.

The president also expressed the hope that Mozambique could strengthen cooperation with China in its future social and economic development so as to bring benefits to the two peoples.

Li, for his part, spoke highly of Mozambique-China relations, saying Mozambique is China's good friend, good partner and good brother in Africa.

China and Mozambique have showed each other mutual respect and mutual trust and treated each other as equals since they forged diplomatic ties more than 30 years ago, Li said.

The two sides have also firmly supported each other on issues concerning each other's core interests and major concerns, he added.

Li said China is willing to further strengthen its pragmatic cooperation in all fields with African countries including Mozambique and bring the new type of strategic partnership between China and Africa to a higher level within the framework of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation.

Li also held a meeting with Mozambique's Parliament Speaker Veronica Macamo on Tuesday.
