Cote d'Ivoire's sitting president Laurent Gbagbo on Wednesday decided to ban flights throughout the West African country against the UN peacekeeping mission (ONUCI) and the French Licorne troops.

"The aircraft of ONUCI and the Licorne are banned from flying and landing throughout the territory," Gbagbo's government announced in a statement broadcast on public television.

According to the statement signed by the ministries of interior, defense and equipment, the measure is "to preserve the integrity of the national territory and the security of people."
