Bomb blasts in Indonesia's Jakarta

A bomb blasted in Indonesia's capital city of Jakarta on Tuesday afternoon, hurting a police officer, detikcom online news reported in Jakarta.

The bomb was wrapped in a packet and purposely sent to Ulil Abshar Abdalla, founder of Liberal Islamic Network (JIL) and an official at the ruling Democratic Party, but he is safe.

Head of Detective Unit in East Jakarta Comm. Dodi Rahmawan lose one of his hands due to the incident. He was immediately brought to the nearest hospital.

Abdalla confirmed that the packet was for him.

"That's right. The packet was sent to me. There is a name and telephone number on it. But I didn't know who he or she is," Abdalla told private television station MetroTV.

He also said that political motive was allegedly behind the incident.

"When I was in JIL, I had never been threat like this. But after I am involved in the Democratic Party, the threat emerged. Indeed that recently, I voiced strong tones that the president must reshuffle cabinet," he said.
