China attaches great importance to the partnership with the Group of 77 and will continue to give support to the group, the Chinese Permanent Representative to the UN office at Geneva He Yafei said in Geneva on Thursday.
In a hand-over ceremony of the Chairmanship of Geneva Chapter of G77, Ambassador He highlighted the challenges including "known unknowns" and "unknown unknowns" to the global economic recovery as well as the social development of developing countries.
He said China and assured its continued support to the Group.
Ambassador He appreciated the work of Ambassador Rodolfo Reyes Rodriguez from Cuba for the year 2010 and congratulated Ambassador Anthony Mothae Maruping from Lesotho on his election of the Chairman for year 2011.
The Group of 77 was established in 1964 by 77 developing countries at the first session of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) in Geneva.
It is currently the largest intergovernmental organization of developing countries in the United Nations, and embodies 130 members.
