Protest over Quran burning resumes in Afghan

A protest demonstration over Quran burning resumed in Kandahar 450 km south of capital Kabul for the second day on Sunday, nine people have been injured, an official said.

"The protest demonstration held this morning in Kandahar city is still continuing and nine injured men have been taken to hospital, deputy to provincial health department Ahmadullah Faizi said.

Police have tightened security and trying to control the situation.

The protesters while chanting slogans against U.S. are calling for the punishment of those responsible for the burning of Quran in Florida of America.

Similar demonstration is also going on in Dand district of Kandahar province.

Meantime, head of provincial health department Abdul Qayum Pukhla in talks with Xinhua confirmed that 16 injured men including two police personnel have been taken to hospital.

This is the second successive day that people in Kandahar have staged protest demonstration to condemn the reported burning of Quran by a priest in Florida of the United States recently.

In a similar demonstration on Saturday, nine people were killed and 81 others were injured.
