Li Changchun meets Armenian parliament speaker

Li Changchun, a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Central Committee's Political Bureau, on Tuesday met Armenian Parliament Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan.

Li said during the meeting that in recent years, bilateral relations between China and Armenia have continued postive, sound and steady development.

"China regards Armenia as its important partner and reliable friend in the South Caucasus," said the senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC). "We appreciate Armenia's one-China principle and we are willing to further and deepen the exchanges and cooperation in various fields between our two countries."

"We will maintain and increase communication and consultation with Armenia on international and regional issues of significance and we will make efforts to develop bilateral relations and build a lasting peace, a shared prosperity and a harmonious world."

Li also said that inter-party contacts and inter-parliament exchanges are important components of state diplomacy of any country and that such contacts and exchanges are of great significance to promoting political and strategic trust and strengthening traditional friendship between the peoples of Armenia and China.

China is prepared to coordinate efforts with the Armenian parliament and main Armenian political parties with the aim of further cementing the traditional friendship and high political mutual trust to strengthen cooperation in such areas as economy, trade, and technology, Li said.

Abrahamyan said that he fully agreed with what Li said and that Armenia and China are eyeing a significant opportunity for further development of bilateral relations.

"We should be responsible for and we are capable of contributing toward further strengthening the achievements of cooperation," said Abrahamyan. "We should tap fully our potentials and broaden the scope of our cooperation so as to continuously develop the relations between Armenia and China."

During his stay in the Armenian capital city of Yerevan, Li has met with President Serzh Sargsyan and Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan.
