Yale alumni have an unparalleled tradition of engaging with the local and global community for the benefit of others. From student-led programs to the highest levels of government service, Yalies have given of themselves to change the world.

A generation ago Sargent Shriver '38, a Yale alumnus renowned for his public service, gave voice to a new vision of global citizenship: that a single citizen could be as important as any institution; that it was possible to change the world one life at a time. His vision was the Peace Corps.

In keeping with Yale University's commitment to community action as well as the personal dedication to reaching out among our alumni, the AYA has recognized the need for alumni opportunities that continue beyond our years at Yale.

The program in Xiuning is an exciting partnership between Yale-China Association and the Yale Alumni Service Corps, an initiative of the Association of Yale Alumni, in this, the 100th anniversary of the Yale-China Teaching Fellowship Program.

The Yale delegation will volunteer in China for two weeks–working with Chinese school children and adults to broaden their horizons, share our culture, and open doors to a different way of life.

The program in Xiuning will build on the diverse talents and energies of the alumni participants to provide a meaningful cultural exchange for the Xiuning community and the Yale participants.

Projects vary from construction to medicine, education, athletics, small business consulting, and more. These programs provide opportunities to work alongside people in the local community, enjoy meaningful cross-cultural exchange, and form incredible bonds with fellow alumni who share a passion for service.

The aim of the program is to increase the understanding and strengthen the friendship between the people of China and the people of the United States of America.

The participants in the Xiuning Cultural Exchange Program will travel to Beijing on July 18 to join the Yale Global Alumni Leadership Exchange and participate in the World Alumni Leadership Conference on July 20 in Beijing.
