Cuban authorities have taken initial steps to eliminate decades-old restrictions on private ownership of property and cars, official Granma newspaper reported Friday.

The authorities are reviewing legal restrictions on private ownership with an aim to simplify the ownership transfer process for property and cars, said Granma.

The move is part of Cuban leader Raul Castro's ambitious reform plans to upgrade the Cuban economy.
