Two civilians were mistakenly killed and three others were injured on Friday when the Yemeni security forces opened fire at a car after it overrun a military convoy in the southern port city of Aden, local officials and witnesses told Xinhua.

The security troops stationed at the military checkpoint of Caltex roundabout mistakenly killed two civilians and wounded three others when they suspected that a small car tried to override some military patrols in Khor Maksar district, the official said in condition of anonymity.

"A military convoy was on its way to the 31st Armored Brigade of Badar intercepted by the car," the official said.

A military source at the checkpoint said that the security troops opened fire at the car for fear that it would trap the military convoy.

Last month, the southern port city of Aden experienced a number of car bombs, which killed several military leaders and a British Maritime expert and injured several others.
