5.9-magnitude quake jolts east Japan

An earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale hit east Japan's Kanto Toho-oki at 08:44 p.m. Wednesday, said the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA).

The epicenter was located at 36.8 degrees north latitude and 143.7 degrees east longitude, according to the agency.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage to properties, and no tsunami warning was issued.

Hong Kong Observatory and U.S. Geological Survey reported the quake is 6.2-magnitude.
