A senior Communist Party of China (CPC) official met with representatives from communist parties of Western European countries on Thursday, pledging closer exchanges with the communist parties and other parties of those countries.

During a meeting with the joint delegation of communist parties in Western Europe, He Yong, a member of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee and a deputy secretary of the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, spoke positively of the contributions the parties made to the friendship between Chinese and Western European people.

He also expressed hopes to enhance exchanges and make joint efforts for world peace and prosperity.

Robert Griffiths, general secretary of the Communist Party of Great Britain, said the communist parties of Western Europe supported China's taking the road of socialism.

Griffiths also congratulated the great achievements of the CPC-led Chinese people in the revolution and construction over the past 90 years since the founding of CPC.

The delegation is scheduled to visit China from Aug. 6 to 19 at the invitation of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee.
