Palestinian and international activists clashed with Israeli forces that were repressing a demonstration in the West Bank Tuesday, witnesses and security sources said.

The Israeli troops arrested a Palestinian and an international pro-Palestinian activist during the clashes near the holy city of Bethlehem, the witnesses said.

The protest was provoked by the leveling of farmlands in Al- Walaga village. Dozens of olive trees were uprooted in the Israeli operation Monday.

The protesters carried Palestinian flags and banners with slogans against Jewish settlement activities and the construction of the West Bank separation barrier.

On Tuesday, Israel's Supreme Court rejected an appeal by the villagers who opposed the construction of the barrier through their village.
