Thai flood death toll reaches 136

A total of 136 people were confirmed dead and two people were missing in the floods that have inundated upper part of the country for nearly two months, authority said on Thursday.

The Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department did not report where the latest six bodies came from since it reported the flood death toll reached 130 on Wednesday.

The province with the highest death toll is central province of Phichit where 31 people are confirmed death.

The floods still prevailed in 23 provinces, mostly in the northern, north eastern and central part of the country, according to the latest report.

Altogether more than 1.9 million people in 144 districts were affected by the floods, it said.

The flood caused by monsoon which have prevailed over the country, the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand.

The department estimated that about 2,300 quare meters of farmland had been hit by flood.

The floods were expected to continue as the National Disaster Warning Centre recently warned of heavy rain that possibly caused flash flood and mudslide.
