U.S. President Barack Obama traveled Sunday to San Francisco Bay Area hoping to tap into tech donors' deep pockets for his reelection bid.

The president attended two private fundraisers in Silicon Valley that evening, held separately at the homes of Facebook Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg and Symantec Board Chairman John Thompson.

Guests paid up to 35,800 U.S. dollars per couple for entry. Pop singer Lady Gaga attended the event at Sandberg's as a paying guest, local media reported.

The Silicon Valley events were part of Obama's three-day fundraising trip starting from Seattle area, Washington, where he attended a fundraiser at the home of former Microsoft executive Jon Shirley earlier Sunday.

He said at the event that the Republicans advocate "an approach to government that would fundamentally cripple America in meeting the challenges of the 21st century."

In Seattle, the president also spoke to 1,700 guests at the Paramount Theater who paid between 100 to 7,500 dollars each, asking them to stay with him and not to feel discouraged by the seemingly slow improvement of the country.

On the same day, the Republican National Committee blasted the president in a statement, citing his failure to create the jobs in Washington State that he had promised in the economic stimulus package passed by Congress in 2009.

On Monday, the president is scheduled to hold a town hall meeting at the headquarters of the business-related social networking site LinkedIn in Mountain View, California. Then he will continue his fundraising tour in San Diego and Los Angeles, and conclude his trip in Denver on Tuesday.
