Mahmoud Jibril, head of the executive committee of Libya's ruling National Transitional Council (NTC), said in Tripoli Sunday that a batch of chemical weapons have been spotted in Tripoli.

The NTC has found chemical weapons a few days ago in Tripoli, which are believed to be possessed by the fallen leadership of Muammar Gaddafi, said Jibril at a press conference.

However, he refused to give further details on the location and amount of the chemical weapons.

"The military will be authorized to release a report on Nov. 3," said Jibril, adding that an international investigation team has arrived in Tripoli.

Meanwhile, Jibril said he proposed to shorten Libya's transitional period, hold elections in five months, expand the size of the NTC, and create a constituent assembly.

Jibril also said that this press conference would be his last one as the head of Libya's NTC executive board.

Jibril, Libya's de facto interim prime minister, has repeatedly said that he would leave his post once NTC forces took control of the whole country.
