3 policemen killed by unknown gunmen in Pakistan

At least three policemen were killed and two others injured when unknown gunmen attacked a police vehicle in Pakistan's eastern district of Khanewal on Thursday afternoon, reported local Urdu TV channel Geo.

According to the report, the attack took place at about 16:40 p. m. local time when a police vehicle was ambushed by unidentified gunmen in the Rangu Bridge area of Khanewal, a district in central Punjab province of eastern Pakistan.

Local media said that the police in the vehicle attacked are from the nearby city of Multan.

Three of them were believed to be killed right on the spot and the other two injured have been sent to a hospital in Multan, which is located some 50 kilometers west of Khanewal.

Identities of the killed police as well as the conditions of the injured are not known at this moment.

It is not known either as how many gunmen have been involved in the attack and for what purpose they attacked the police coming from the neighbouring city.

The whereabouts of the attackers are also not known at this point. No group has claimed the responsibility for the attack.
