Iran's Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi said Wednesday that the country's Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) is to hold military drill soon, the semi-official ISNA news agency reported.

"Iran is the most important power in the region, playing a significant role in protecting security of the area," Vahidi was quoted as saying.

"Of course, the enemy runs smear campaigns on the issue to exaggerate on Iran's power (since) it seeks to sell its weapons to regional countries," he said.

Iran wrapped up its 10-day navy drill in the Persian Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz and the Sea of Oman on Tuesday while Iran's Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari described it as " successful."

On Wednesday, Vahidi said that the security of the Strait of Hormuz has been always pursued by Iran and the country has managed to keep security of the area.
