Chinese and Turkmen leaders on Friday pledged to enhance cooperation and advance bilateral ties between the two countries.
Chen Zhili, vice chairwoman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China, said that since China and Turkmenistan established diplomatic ties 20 years ago, bilateral relations have gained fruit with enhanced political mutual trust and broadened cooperation under the care and promotion of the leaders of the two countries.
Chen, also the special envoy of Chinese President Hu Jintao, spoke during a meeting with Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov in the Turkmen capital.
During his China visit in November, Berdymukhamedov and Hu held important talks. The two sides signed a joint statement on deepening bilateral friendly and cooperative relations and a series of agreements on cooperation in economy, trade and energy, Chen said.
China will work with Turkmenistan to implement the important consensus reached by the two leaders and related agreements signed by the two parties to further bilateral relations, Chen said.
Berdymukhamedov said his China visit injected dynamics into the development of Turkmenistan-China relations.
China is a friendly and reliable partner, the president said, stressing that developing good neighborly and friendly relations with China is one of the priorities of Turkmen diplomacy.
Turkmenistan adheres to the one-China principle and appreciates China's policy of respecting and supporting Turkmenistan's foreign policy of neutrality and peace, Berdymukhamedov said.
Developing friendly cooperation serves the common interests of the two countries and peoples and has broad prospects, the president said, adding that Turkmenistan is willing to enhance cooperation with China in economy, trade, energy, telecommunications and the textile industry.
