Five people, including a security man, were killed and three polling personnel injured Saturday in an encounter with militants in the northeastern Indian state of Manipur during voting for the local legislative assembly, local media reported.
A paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) man, three Village Volunteer Force personnel and a civilian were killed and two others injured when militants attacked an interior polling station in Sugnu Assembly constituency in Chandel district, said Press Trust of India.
But Chief Electoral Commissioner P.C. Lawmkunga said three people were killed instead of five during a shootout at the Dampi polling station in the district, according to the report.
Earlier TV reports said four security men were killed in the attack by the militants.
On Friday, two CRPF personnel on poll duty were killed in an ambush by militants in Ukhrul district.
The civilian killed in the shooting was suspected to be a militant, according to Indo-Asian News Service.
The conflict took place when a group of armed men tried to grasp a voting booth at the station, it added.
