In a continuing protest, the supporters of former President Mohamed Nasheed rallied around Maldives parliament, demanding the release of lawmaker arrested following Wednesday's violence in the islands.

On Sunday evening, the protesters gathered in front of the parliament, 'Peoples Majlis' and chanted slogans to free Mohamed Rasheed, a parliamentarian from the Maldives southernmost atoll, Addu where Nasheed's supporters torched all the police stations and judicial buildings.
During the protest accusing the police being in the payroll of wealthy Maldivian Buruma Gasim, MDP supporters throw money at the riot police. Several protesters who blocked police attempt to clear the road to parliament were arrested.
Since Tuesday's controversial power transfer, former president Mohamed Nasheed vowed to carry out street fights until newly appointed president Dr. Mohammed Waheed Hassan step down and announced a snap poll.
Nasheed's announcement on Wednesday that he was ousted by a military coup, saw street demonstrations with nearly 2000 MDP supporters in the capital Male and violence in Addu, the MDP stronghold the second most heavily populated area in the Maldives after Male.
