Demonstration leaves 1 dead, 4 injured in northern Afghan province

At least one person was killed and four others sustained injuries on Thursday as hundreds of demonstrators took to the streets in Afghan Baghlan province, 160 km north of capital Kabul. "Clash between police and protestors in Baghlan-e-Jadid district have claimed the life of one person and injured four others. All the victims have been taken to hospital,"Khalil Narmgoi, head of health department in Baghlan-e-Jadid district, told Xinhua.

The person who lost his life during the clash was a poor show maker, a witness said, adding police had been trying to calm down the situation.

Similar demonstrations were staged in eastern Assadabad city of Jalalabad, Mehterlam city of Laghman province and Bagrami district of Kabul province Thursday morning, leaving four people injured including two in Kabul and two in Laghman.

The protests over the alleged Quran burning by U.S. military in Bagram airbase, 50 km north of Kabul, have entered its third day on Thursday. During Wednesday's demonstrations, seven people were killed and 30 others sustained injuries.
