5.6 magnitude earthquake hits Pakistan

An Earthquake measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale hit Pakistan's northern province of Gilgit Baltistan and northwest province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Monday morning, reported local Meteorological Department.

Earthquake tremors were felt at about 11:30 a.m. (local time) in Peshawar, Abbotabad, Gilgit and Swat areas of the country.

The epicenter of the earthquake was located at a focal depth of 10 km in the Kashmir region, a mountainous area sitting at country 's northeastern border.

A series of aftershocks followed the earthquake creating panic among people, but no loss of life was reported, according to initial reports.
