Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili will attend the nuclear security summit in South Korea later this month, the presidential administration said Tuesday.
More than 50 national leaders and heads of international organizations are expected to participate in the March 27-28 summit in the South Korean capital of Seoul.
South Korean Foreign Minister Kim Sung-hwan said early March that the meeting would focus on how to strengthen global atomic safety after Japan's nuclear disaster triggered by last year's 9.0-magnitude earthquake.
Saakashvili's participation was announced after the president met here with U.S. Assistant Secretary of Defense Andrew C. Weber over nuclear, chemical and biological defense programs.
"Deepening relations and cooperation between Georgia and the United States was the main topic of discussion," the administration said in a briefing.
