Romney won 82 percent of the vote, far ahead of his two close challengers Rick Santorum, who won 9 percent, and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, who won only 3 percent, with 11 percent of the precincts reporting.

Romney is set to win all 20 delegates from the island territory to the 2012 Republican National Convention, due to be held in Tampa, Florida, in August to nominate the Republican contender to challenge Democratic incumbent president Barack Obama.

To win the Republican nomination, any of the candidates has to win a total of 1,144 delegates before the convention opens.

On Tuesday, the Republicans will hold its next primary in the state of Illinois, where Romney and Santorum are locked in a tight race.
