A suicide blast apparently targeted the NATO-led troops in Maimana city, the capital of Faryab province 425 km northwest of Kabul on Wednesday, leaving over a dozen people dead and injured, a local official said but declined to be identified.
"At least four people were killed and more than 12 others sustained injuries in the explosion," the official told Xinhua.
Meantime, deputy to Faryab's provincial governor Abdul Sattar Bariz confirmed the incident but did not mention the number of casualties.
"The attack happened at 11:00 a.m. local time in Maimana city and some people might have been killed and injured," Bariz told Xinhua but declined to give further details.
Meantime, provincial governor Abdul Haq Shafaq when approached by Xinhua confirmed the incident, saying "a blast, apparently suicide attack happened in Maimana city today when a group of foreign journalists along with foreign troops were snapping the city and interviewing the local."
Troops from Norway have been stationed in Faryab province within the framework of NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF).
Details would be made public after completion of investigation, Shafaq said.
