8.2 magnitude quake hits northern Sumatra

An earthquake measuring 8.2 on the Richter scale jolted off the coast of northern Sumatra, Indonesia, at 6:43 p.m. Beijing Time Wednesday, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center.

The epicenter, with a depth of 20 km, was at 0.8 degree north latitude and 92.4 degrees east longitude.
