Six law-enforcement members, including an officer, were killed Wednesday by the blast of an explosive device in Syria's northern Idlib province, state-run SANA news agency reported.

The explosive was detonated by "armed groups" in al-Masdouma in Idlib, said SANA, adding that another 11 government troops were injured in the blast.

In southern Daraa province, a policeman was killed Wednesday by sniper fire in al-Jmarek area, said SANA.

Separately, a pro-government news website said gunmen threw a grenade at law-enforcement forces in the Damascus suburb of Arbeen during the tour of UN observers, injuring a brigadier general.

However, the opposition Local Coordination Committees said Syrian troops fired at demonstrators in Arbeen when the UN observers were in the area.

The report gave no further details and could not be independently checked.

Violence has continued unabated in Syria even after the arrival of UN observers, who arrived Sunday to monitor the UN-backed cease- fire.
