Chinese President Hu Jintao held talks with South Sudanese President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Tuesday afternoon in Beijing.
Hu welcomed Kiir's visit to China on behalf of the Chinese government and people, and congratulated Kiir for South Susan's independence and his position as founding president of the country.
He believed that Kiir's visit will increase mutual understanding between the two countries and promote the development of bilateral ties.
Kiir thanked Hu for his invitation on behalf of the government and people of South Sudan.
Kiir is paying a state visit to China from April 23 to 28 at the invitation of President Hu Jintao.
During the visit, Kiir will also meet with China's top legislator Wu Bangguo and Vice Premier Li Keqiang on Wednesday respectively.
China established diplomatic relationship with South Sudan on July 9, 2011.
