17 armed militants killed in Afghan province

Pakistani security forces eliminated 17 armed anti-government militants Sunday night during cleanup operations in Paktika province, 155 km south of capital Kabul, spokesman for provincial administration Mukhlis Afghan said Monday.

According to the spokesman, the operations backed by NATO-led aircrafts were conducted in Sarobi and Shakhil Abad districts Sunday night during which a number of arms and ammunitions were seized by security forces. "Fifteen armed militants were killed in Sarobi district and two others in Shakhil Abad,"Afghan told Xinhua, adding that all insurgents were dressed in military uniform.

There were no casualties on the security forces or civilians.

Taliban militants fighting Afghan and NATO-led troops have yet to make any comment.
