Russia slashes US human rights report

The Russian Foreign Ministry on Monday called "non-objective" a human rights report published by the U.S. State Department last Thursday.
"The part concerning Russia is not objective. The American partners, unfortunately, do not want to notice the massive works being done by the Russian leadership," Konstantin Dolgov, the ministry's representative for human rights, democracy and law, said in a comment.
The statement was in response to the 2011 Country Reports on Human Rights Practices released by the U.S. State Department last Thursday.
Dolgov said the report, like other similar papers, "contains the habitual abuse of the humanitarian and human rights issues, use of double standards, arbitrary assessments in favor of the U.S. political interests."
"It is not always clear on what sources the certain questionable conclusions have been based," Dolgov said.
The diplomat also highlighted "one-sided" description of the human rights situation in the Middle East and North Africa.
"When it comes to Libya, the report focuses on the justification of NATO's violation of international humanitarian laws during its military operation in that country," Dolgov noted.
"And it is remarkable the report lacks analysis of the human rights in the U.S. itself," he said.
