Units of Afghan national army have killed 25 Taliban fighters during a cleanup operation in the southern Helmand province since Tuesday, army spokesman in the province Mohammad Rasoul Zazai said Wednesday.
"The operation was launched in Sangin district on Tuesday and so far 25 Taliban rebels have been killed and five others injured," Zazai told Xinhua.
He added that it was an independent operation conducted by Afghan soldiers and would continue until the area is swept off from the insurgents.
Spokesman for provincial administration Daud Ahmadi said that Afghan soldiers have killed 25 insurgents in Sangin district over the past two days.
