The Ministry of Commerce (MOC) on Friday urged Chinese enterprises and citizens in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to step up security precautions, as clashes in the eastern DRC have escalated.

Chinese firms and personnel should avoid traveling to eastern areas, especially North-Kivu province and its neighboring areas, an MOC statement said, adding that those who are already there should be on alert.

The situation in North-Kivu, a mineral-rich eastern border region, has deteriorated recently, the statement said.
