Reviewing China's history of past 10 years, we could see two distinctive characters. First, China has achieved a great development. Its GDP had increased by about six times from 1.12 trillion U.S. dollars in 2001 to 7.2 trillion U.S. dollars in 2011. Such a growth rate has surprised the world.

The great development of China is definitely not an isolated phenomenon. The second character is that as China is rising, it is encountering increasing troubles internationally. In this case, how should we regard and deal with these troubles?

First, it must be seen that these troubles are outcomes of China's development and progress. It is natural that changes bring uneasiness, anxiety and even fear. A country, like an individual, meets troubles when it goes backward, stands still or goes forwards. Essentially, the various troubles faced by China are brought by the progress of China and are "growing pains."

In addition, it must also be seen that the troubles faced by China are closely connected with the changing times. The times have changed and peace and development are mainstreams of the current world. However, many people still have not changed their mentalities and are still using the Cold War mentality to regard China's development.

How should China deal with these troubles? While dealing with any issue, the changes of the overall situation must be taken into consideration.

The new situation means that the times have changed and the world has entered an era regarding peace and development as mainstreams. The new issues mean the return of Hong Kong and Macao, Diaoyu Islands issue and South China Sea issue. The new method means the "one nation, two systems" and "the territorial sovereignty belongs to China and the two sides put aside the dispute and develop it jointly" proposed by Deng Xiaoping.

The "one nation, two systems" theory was successfully implemented in Hong Kong and Macao and it has proved that the judgments made by Deng are extremely wise. That "the territorial sovereignty belongs to China and the two sides put aside the dispute and develop it jointly" has also built up a peaceful environment of many years for the development of China.

Currently, regarding the Diaoyu Island issue and South China Sea issue, the challenges faced by China are more acute and more urgent.

Facing various outside "disturbances," the current China is confident and has more methods and newer ideas.

China is a peace-loving country and will always hold the flag of peace, development and cooperation, but the history has proved and will continue to prove that China never fears provocations. China is definitely able to deal with various troubles properly and solve various difficulties successfully.
