At least 20 people were killed and 20 others injured in a fire which broke out Wednesday at a fireworks factory in Sivakasi district of the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, reported local TV channel Times Now.

The fire gutted the whole factory and has spread to a nearby community of Hindu religion where some people are also feared to be trapped, it said.

About 300 people were at the factory when the fire erupted. Fire fighters dared not enter the premises of the factory in fear of an explosion from the fireworks, said the report.
