U.S. President Barack Obama and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Friday talked over phone on Iran and other security topics.

The two leaders discussed a range of security issues, and Obama reaffirmed the United States' unshakable commitment to Israel's security, the White House said in a short statement on Friday.

"The two leaders underscored that they are in full agreement on the shared goal of preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon, " noted the statement.

"The Prime Minister welcomed President Obama's commitment before the United Nations General Assembly to do what we must to achieve that goal," said the statement.

Obama did not meet Netanyahu during the latter's U.S. visit. Netanyahu used his U.N. speech on Thursday to push for a "red line " on Iran's nuclear program.
