At least two security members were killed and 15 other people were wounded when a suicide bombing rocked Lashkar Gah, the provincial capital of southern Afghan province of Helmand on Monday afternoon, a provincial source said.

"A militant, driving an explosive-laden minibus, rammed his vehicle to a National Security Directorate (NDS) office building in Safyano area in police district 7 at around 1:40 p.m. local time, leaving two NDS servicemen dead," a provincial government spokesman, Ahmad Zarak, told Xinhua.

The injured included 14 civilians and security member with the NDS, he said.

The government troops immediately cordoned off the area shortly after the explosion.

"Most of the force of the explosion was absorbed by the protective barrier outside the building, he said, adding that the explosion damaged the compound entrance and was not followed-up by any subsequent attacks.

The blast caused a plume of grey smoke to rise above the scene.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far but Taliban militants have been behind most suicide and roadside bomb attacks across the war-ravaged country.

The Taliban-led insurgency has been rampant since the militant group launched an annual spring offensive dubbed "Al-Farooq" from May 3 against Afghan and about 100,000 NATO-led troops stationed in the country.

The insurgent group has warned the civilians to stay away from official gatherings, military convoys and centers regarded as the legitimate targets by militants besides warning people against supporting government and foreign troops.
