China attached great importance to developing friendly and cooperative relations with Mexico, a senior official of Communist Party of China (CPC) said Sunday.

Ai Ping, deputy head of the International Department of the CPC's Central Committee, made the remarks during a meeting with Pedro Joaquin Coldwell, president of the Mexican Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) and of the Permanent Conference of Political Parties of Latin America and the Caribbean (COPPPAL).

Ai offered his congratulations to Coldwell for being elected as the COPPPAL president, adding that the CPC is willing to strengthen relationship with the PRI and further strategic cooperation between China and Mexico.

He said that the two countries, currently at a vital stage of the economic and social development, share a great potential of deeper cooperation.

For his part, Coldwell said both the PRI and the CPC have a long history and rich experience in governance, which are important in promoting governance and achieving social and economic advance.

The PRI is looking forward to closer ties and cooperation with the CPC to bring the bipartisan and bilateral relations to a new level, he added.

China's delegation arrived here Saturday for the third joint meeting between the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP) standing committee and COPPPAL.

After the two-day meeting, representatives of political parties from Latin America, Asia and Africa agreed to cooperate in maintaining national sovereignty and world peace, and in fighting terrorism, organized crime and drug trafficking. Enditem
